What concrete flatwork includes
Flatwork is any horizontal concrete surface — patios, walkways, driveways, slabs, and sidewalks. It looks simple but it depends entirely on what's underneath: grading, compacted base, forms, reinforcement, slope for drainage, and the right finishing techniques for our PNW climate.
Common residential flatwork projects
- Backyard concrete patios
- Front and side walkways
- Residential driveways
- Pad slabs for sheds, hot tubs, and AC units
- Sidewalks and pathways
- Garage and basement entry slabs
Why properly installed flatwork matters
Concrete that's poured on poor base or without proper drainage cracks, settles, and traps water — especially in the Pacific Northwest. Done right, flatwork stays level, drains correctly, resists freeze-thaw damage, and looks clean for decades.
Our process: grading, base, forms, drainage, reinforcement, finish
We start with grading and excavation to the right depth, then compact a clean crushed-rock base. Forms are set true to elevation with slope for drainage. Rebar or wire mesh reinforces the slab. We pour, screed, float, and finish to the texture you choose — smooth, broom, or stamped — and control-cut joints to manage cracking.
